YOUTH GIRLS PROGRAM - GENERAL INFORMATION

GIRLS AGE GROUPS

We follow USA Lacrosse guidelines and age group standards. Below is an overview of the typical age group placement and a brief description of gameplay at each level. New and returning players are welcome at all age groups.

U8 | Grades 1–2

At this time, BVLA does not offer a standalone U8 division. U8 players will focus on skill development and may participate with the U10 team when appropriate, based on player comfort level, skill readiness, and mutual agreement between coaches and parents.

If a true U8 game opportunity becomes available, it will follow the standard U8 format: 4v4 play on a 60 yd x 35 yd field, with no offsides, 3’ x 3’ goals, and goalies optional.

The emphasis at the U8 level remains on having fun, building excitement for the game, and developing foundational lacrosse skills and confidence.

U10 | Grades 3–4

Games move to an 8v8 format on the same field size as U8, using standard 4’ x 4’ goals with goalies required.

U10 continues to emphasize fun and enjoyment while introducing more structured skill development and overall athletic growth.

U12 | Grades 5–6

At this time, BVLA does not offer a standalone U12 division. U12 players currently combine with our U14 team for games, with placement based on player readiness, skill level, and comfort.

Gameplay transitions to a regulation-size field (110 yd x 60 yd) and a 10v10 format. At this level, players continue to develop foundational lacrosse skills—such as passing, catching, and ground balls—while placing a greater emphasis on teamwork, positioning, and game awareness.

U14 | Grades 7–8

U14 continues with regulation field size and 10v10 play, building on the skills learned at U12.

This level focuses on refining lacrosse skills, increasing game understanding, and preparing players for the high school game.

As interest and participation continue to grow within the Appleton Lacrosse Club and the Bay Valley Lacrosse Association (BVLA), our goal is to eventually offer dedicated teams at each age level.

Preseason activities begin in February. The regular season runs from March through early June and concludes with the end-of-season BVLA (Bay Valley Lacrosse Association) tournament.
